NYCFC’s alleged home kit leaked by Footy Headlines

Whether it be rumors of Sergio Leon coming stateside or Domé Torrent apparently keeping his job, it’s safe to say that I’ve been pretty underwhelmed with the recent New York City FC news.

And if you were hoping for 2019 uniform news to be a source of excitement, think again.

Earlier today, Footy Headlines leaked what is believed to be NYCFC’s 2019 home kit.

Just… meh.

Before I go into full “shit-on-you” mode, let me say what I like about the kit. I like the inclusion of orange, which I felt NYCFC got away from with their gray and blue away kit this year. That’s not to say I didn’t like the new away kit — I actually really enjoy it. But to see orange make a return is welcomed in my opinion.

Also, I like the idea of a racing stripe. Since their inception, that is the one concept that NYCFC have not tried. And to see some progression as far as the actual design is concerned is a good sign.

Now, what don’t I like about the new kit? Pretty much everything else.

The kit itself just looks bland. Both the collar and the sleeves have nothing going on in the way of stripes or accents. The racing stripe — albeit different — lacks any pop and is made up of two solid colors without an outline or anything. There is also no jock tag. WHY ISN’T THERE A JOCK TAG!?

Granted, this could be a leak of the replica version of the top — which would explain why there are no MLS badges on either sleeve. And if that is the case, then I will take it all back when the kit is formally announced in the next few months. But for now, I am once again underwhelmed.

Oh yeah: #DomeOut
