Rise and shine: A limited-edition adidas Ultraboost x COPA shoe with New York City FC colors and details will be released tomorrow, September 13, at 3 am ET on adidas.com and 11 am ET on the NYCFC online shop. The shoes will only be sold online — no need to camp out at the adidas mothership on Fifth Ave.
The shoe looks to be a hybrid of a COPA leather upper and an Ultraboost running sole. According to an official statement, it’s “the iconic Copa cleat in an off-field form.” Cool, cool. That COPA upper is rendered in NYCFC’s distinctive celeste, while the sole in New York City orange. The team’s 2015 founding year is on the tongue, and the laces have “TOGETHER” and “FOR THE CITY” callouts.
The shoes will cost a cool $200. What did you expect?
We first came across the shoe in a tweet posted by adidas that has a nice promo video featuring NYCFC homegrown Justin Haak. Atlanta United, Charlotte FC, the New Jersey Red Bulls, Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, and St. Louis City SC all have collab shoes as well, but we’ll note that NYCFC gets pole position in the promo.
We feel this release ranks fairly high in the history of NYCFC merch. It’s up there with the YANKEE SOCCER STADIUM hoodie from Tens Club, and the NO CLUCKS GIVEN scarf from Chicken Bucket FC. We’re looking forward to spotting these kicks around the Stadium when the playoffs roll around.
