UPDATE 10/28: Sunday’s match is scheduled to kick off at 7:00pm ET. It will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
The sixth overall meeting between Toronto FC and New York City will be bigger than all the rest combined.
Following last night’s 3-1 home victory over Philadelphia Union, the #3 seed Reds are set to take on the #2 seed Bronx Blues in the two-legged Eastern Conference Finals.
Toronto’s BMO Field will host the opening half of the tie this Sunday, October 30th. The two teams will head to Yankee Stadium the following Sunday, November 6th, for the back end.
TFC boasts tremendous firepower, including reigning league MVP Sebastian Giovinco and resurgent U.S. National Team striker Jozy Altidore.
But get this: in five previous meetings, Toronto has never defeated NYCFC.
“We have to enjoy it – as a football club, it’s the first time we’ve played in the Playoffs and we’re in a really good period so we just have to continue what we’ve been doing in the last few months,” City gaffer Patrick Vieira told NYCFC.com. “It’s exciting for us at the football club because it’s something we’ve never done before.”
“For all the people working in the office, the players— we have to enjoy this moment.”
The kickoffs times of the two semifinal matches have yet to be determined. Stay tuned to Hudson River Blue for all the latest as we barrel headfirst into a massive Soccer Sunday!
