New York City FC just announced that they will host FC Cincinnati at Citi Field on Saturday, November 2 at 5 pm in Round One of the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Tickets will be available today at 3 pm ET here.

The date and opponent were known earlier this week, but the time and venue were left TBD while NYCFC waited for the results of the latest round of Major League Baseball playoffs, which had both New York City teams contending for their respective league championships. The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians to win the American League pennant, and will appear in the World Series starting this Friday. But the New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers, which means that Citi Field will be available for Major League Soccer.

This will be NYCFC's third playoff game at Citi Field. In 2022, they defeated a pre-Lionel Messi Inter Miami 3-0 in — it was arguably the most dominant and elegant postseason performance in club history. In 2019, a heavily favored New York City lost in stoppage time to Toronto FC after giving up a last-minute penalty.

A Decision Day loss in Montréal means that New York City will begin the best-of-three Round One of the MLS Cup Playoffs on the road at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

Round One is a best-of-three series that will open at Cincinnati's TQL Stadium on Monday, October 28 at 6:45 pm. New York City will host Game 2 on Saturday, November 2 at 5 pm. Game 3, if necessary, will be held at TQL Stadium on Saturday, November 9 at 4 pm.

Round One games cannot end in a draw. A match with an even scoreline after 90′ goes straight to penalty kicks to determine the winner. There is no extra time.

As reported in the Hudson River Blue 2024 MLS Cup Playoff primer, home-field advantage is significant in Round One. Last year, a total of 19 Round One games were played, and the home team won 14 of those.
