It's Matchday 7 and New York City FC return to The Bronx for a third time, where they will host a Minnesota United FC undefeated in their last five games.
This rare Sunday afternoon match comes on the heels of a second-half collapse by New York City on Matchday 6 in Atlanta. Pascal Jansen will be hoping his team reacts positively to the sting of that 4-3 road loss, and maybe a return home will help since both of New York City's 2025 wins came at Yankee Soccer Stadium.
Minnesota arrives riding an unbeaten streak and looking dangerous in attack thanks to the dual threat of Tani Oluwaseyi and Kelvin Yeboah, who each have four goals. Containing those two will be the task of the day for a New York City defense playing directly after one of the team's more concerning defensive performances in Atlanta.

These two clubs faced each other just five times over the years since Minnesota joined MLS in 2017. The most recent matchup was a home loss for New York City at Citi Field in 2023. That version of NYCFC dominated possession, completed 491 passes, took 19 shots, and still found a way to lose 0-2.
After that result, the two sides settled into an even H2H record, with each recording two wins, one draw, and eight goals scored. Which way will the pendulum swing at Yankee Stadium? It's a place where these teams met only once before: June 29, 2017, when Patrick Vieira's Pigeons beat Adrian Heath's Loons 3-1 on goals from Alexander Callens, Jack Harrison, and David Villa in a rare Thursday night matchup in the Bronx.
New York City Scouting Report
• Player Availability: Malachi Jones (leg), Nico Cavallo (leg), Jacob Arroyave (knee), and Andrés Perea (hip) are all out. Tayvon Gray is off the injury report after he started back-to-back matches with New York City FC II in MLS Next Pro to regain match fitness, and now we wait to see if he features vs Minnesota.
• Pascal Jansen sounded very displeased with the behavior of Thiago Martins following the fourth Atlanta United goal last weekend. Will there be consequences for the Designated Player's outburst toward Matt Freese – like someone else wearing the captain's armband, or a change in personnel vs Minnesota?
• 38-year-old Maxi Moralez completed the full 90' in three straight matches while also being on the pitch for 92% of NYCFC's minutes played so far in 2025. He's only picked up one assist to date, on Matchday 1 in Miami, but does rank second in MLS for passes completed into the final attacking third and is tied for the ninth-most passes completed into the penalty area. The veteran is busy trying to make things happen, but it's yet to translate to direct goal contributions.
• Through six matches New York City ranks next-to-last in MLS, ahead of only Toronto FC, with 15.83 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes, per FBRef. The team ranks 25th out of 30 in MLS in attempted shots per 90 (9.83), but they make their rare attempts count: NYCFC ranks third in MLS with a 44.1% shot-on-target rate and ranks inside the Top 10 in goals scored per shot attempt.
• Historically New York City dominates Western Conference teams visiting the Big Apple. NYCFC's home record vs. the West all-time stands at 20W-9D-9L with a +33 goal differential, though the team's recent form just when facing out-of-conference opponents isn't as good. In 2024, NYCFC went 1W-0D-5L when playing teams from the Western Conference, which included two home losses, and they suffered a loss at LAFC in their only 2025 non-conference match prior to the Minnesota one.
