Tickets to the New York City FC vs Inter Miami CF game at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, September 21 are now available to the general public — and start at $235 per seat in the 400 level of the upper deck at Yankee Stadium.
Seats in the 300 level, which is officially called the Terrace, start at $260, and seats in the 200 level start at $280. Seats in the 100 level start at $311.
Compare those prices to tickets for this Saturday's matchup against the New England Revolution. In that battle between the 11th-place and 13th-place teams in the Eastern Conference, seats in the 200 level start at $20, and seats in the 100 level start at $21.
The Messi Effect
Of course, New England doesn't have Lionel Messi in the lineup — or sitting in the stands while nursing an injury. Messi is the single biggest draw in MLS, and the single largest contributor to the inflated prices for any game that features Inter Miami.
Last year, Inter Miami announced that the cost of season tickets would more than double in 2024. The Messi Effect has been felt in the prices – and attendance numbers – seen throughout the league.
Seats to watch Inter Miami play Sporting Kansas City this coming Saturday start at $99. But the game will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, which has a capacity of 76,416, and not Children's Mercy Park, which has a capacity 18,467.
Record-breaking crowd in The Bronx?
Notably, all sections of Yankee Stadium will be open for the Inter Miami game on September 21. That includes $1436 luxury seats behind home plate, which are far from the action in a stadium where soccer is played mostly across the outfield.
Could New York City break the club record for attendance set in 2015, when 48,047 squeezed into Yankee Stadium to watch NYCFC play the New York Red Bulls? The capacity crowd saw Tommy McNamara score in the 6th minute, then watched the Red Bulls respond with three second-half goals to win the game.
To go by what's available through Ticketmaster, the answer is yes. There's not much availability despite the tickets going on sale earlier today, and the game taking place more than five months from now.
New York City first made seats available to season ticket holders and fans who registered for the presale, and most of the stadium was sold before. The club offered seats in the 200 section to season ticket holders for around $130 — that's almost $100 more than the standard cost, and around $150 less than the price right now.
