New York City FC renewed the rivalry with the Red Bulls and earned a huge win in the latest Hudson River Derby, crushing the hosts 5-1 at Red Bull Arena.
The weather in New Jersey was dreary but the mood quickly turned festive for the visiting New York City fans, with Maxi Moralez opening the scoring in the fifth minute, the first of four first-half goals for the blue side of the Hudson River rivalry, which led 4-1 at halftime and never looked too troubled by the usually tough-at-home Red Bulls.
This win completed a regular season sweep of the Red Bulls by NYCFC, something that hadn't happened since the 2022 season and had only happened in the 2017 season before that.
• Both NYCFC fullbacks picked up assists in that prolific first half, great deliveries in from each of Tayvon Gray and Kevin O'Toole leading to goals.
• Another brace for El Clínico Alonso Martínez, who again scored inside the first 10 minutes of a match, and actually could have had more goals, hitting the crossbar once and putting a breakaway chance wide of the goal.
The ratings form will remain open until 11:59 pm on Sunday, September 29. Results will be published on the morning of Monday, September 30.
