Legendary sportsradio station kicking off multi-year broadcast deal to bring soccer to New Yorkers beginning in 2015 The New York City Football Club announced today that beginning in 2015, games will be broadcast on WFAN 660 AM/ 101.9 FM.
This. is. BIG.
WFAN is probably the flagship sports radio station in New York City. In fact, it’s probably the flagship sports radio station in the country — it was the original sports radio station, and it’s been on that format for 26 years. WFAN broadcasts Yankees games, the Giants, the Nets, and the New Jersey Devils.
In contrast, the Red Bulls don’t have any radio presence at all, and while games are broadcast on MSG, I’d wager that WFAN has far greater penetration and mind-share. I wouldn’t be surprised if this meant that soccer would be discussed by the station’s talkers, as well.
