New York City vs DC United player ratings

A third straight match that New York City FC failed to win after taking a lead meant low ratings, but Matt Freese's return to health and continued excellence in goal earned him high marks.

Another lead slipped from New York City FC's grasp in the 1-1 draw with DC United at Audi Field on Matchday 28.

This was the third straight MLS match in which New York City took the lead but failed to claim a win inside 90 minutes – something that's now occurred in 10 of the club's 33 matches in all competitions in 2024.

The last time Nick Cushing's team won a league match, the calendar had just flipped to July. Halfway through September, wins have gone missing and your player ratings have gotten a bit sour.

It wasn't all bad for NYCFC in DC. Matt Freese's ability to shake off the MCL sprain that knocked him out of the loss in Columbus was the difference between NYCFC earning one or zero points: Freese made five saves total and three of them came in the second half while DC was pushing to find a late winner, helping him earn another Player of the Match honor.

Outside of Freese, the ratings don't look too strong. Disappointment in the result and the winless run of games seems to have you taking out frustration on certain players, as there were some significant divergences in ratings handed out by FotMob and the Hudson River Blue readers.
