NYCFC to face Toronto in Eastern Conference Semifinals

TFC’s huge extra time win against DC United sends them to New York City in what should be a tough battle.

If you’re a New York City FC fan, odds are you were rooting for DC United last night against Toronto FC tonight. After all, NYCFC performed less than stellar in both of their matchups against TFC this season — a 4-0 loss early on the road and a 1-1 draw at home make the Reds the only team in the East that the Pigeons haven’t beat this season.

Not only that, but the last time NYCFC and Toronto met in the playoffs, the Reds made easy work of the Bronx Blues in the 2016 Eastern Semifinals with a total aggregate of 7-0.

TFC and D.C. battled each other to a 1-1 tie after 90 minutes, forcing the game into extra time. Despite United grabbing a huge late equalizing goal, Toronto would have their way with the Black-and-Reds in extra time, scoring our goals en route to a 5-1 win.

Because of the rout in the Great White North, NYCFC will be forced to exorcise the demons of their past if they wish to continue pursuing their destiny towards the MLS Cup final.

Due to some hasty scheduling due to the New York Yankees now-finished playoff run, NYCFC will have to play this “home” game across town at Citi Field in Queens, Hopefully, that doesn’t come into play.
