Earlier tonight, New York City FC advanced to the 2024 Leagues Cup Quarterfinals after defeating Tigres UANL at Red Bull Arena in the Round of 16. They will next face Columbus Crew on Saturday, August 17, at 6 pm ET at Lower.com Field in Ohio.

NYCFC were the underdogs going into the game. They faced a full-strength Tigres riding a five-game winning streak in all competitions, and who were one of the favorites to win the tournament. Tigres scored first, but a resilient New York City responded with a goal of their own less than two minutes later. It remained 1-1 until Santiago Rodríguez scored the game-winner in the 65th minute.

Earlier tonight, Columbus Crew defeated Inter Miami 3-2 at Lower.com. Columbus recovered from a 0-2 deficit to score three goals in the final 23 minutes, and defeat the 2023 Leagues Cup champions 3-2.

Columbus have home-field advantage after finishing third overall in the 2023 MLS Supporters' Shield race.

The two teams last met on June 14, when a New York City reduced to 10 players lost 2-3 to Columbus. NYCFC outplayed Columbus despite being short-handed, and were unlucky to lose the match: PRO Referees later confirmed that the game-winning penalty awarded to Columbus was a mistake.

The winner of this game will play the winner of the Philadelphia Union vs Mazatlán FC Quarterfinals, also scheduled for Saturday, August 17. Should New York City advance and Philadelphia win, NYCFC will next play at Subaru Park in Chester, PA on Wednesday, August 21. But if New York City win and Mazatlán advance, then NYCFC will likely host the "home" game at Red Bull Arena.
