New York City FC looked the better team but gave Columbus Crew one chance too many before leveling it at one goal apiece in stoppage time: Here are your NYCFC vs Columbus highlights.
NYCFC took the field with a makeshift backline for the second game in a row. The club were still missing central defenders Maxime Chanot (on international duty with Luxembourg) and Thiago Martins (knee surgery). Midfielders Justin Haak and James Sands joined backup central defender Tony Alfaro in a back-three that performed well for most of the game, but came undone at a crucial moment to allow Columbus to score.
NYCFC 1 – 1 Columbus: Rate the Players
Head coach Nick Cushing made liberal use of his substitutes, remaking the attack by bringing on Gabriel Segal, Richy Ledezma, Kevin O’Toole, and Stephen Turnbull. It worked. Segal scored the tying goal in the 94th minute.
The team looked primed to steal a win in the final two minutes of stoppage time, but what should have been an NYCFC corner kick was called a goal kick for Columbus, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
