Back to the Boogie Down Bronx for a second straight history-tinged home match for New York City FC, as they host the New England Revolution on the exact 10th anniversary of these two teams playing NYCFC's first-ever game at Yankee Stadium.
NYCFC won on this day 10 years ago in front of 43,507 fans and will be hoping to repeat history against a New England team struggling out of the gate in its second season under coach Caleb Porter – the Revs have zero wins, zero goals scored, and just four shots on target entering this their fourth match of the season.
New York City notched its first win of 2025 last time out and will look to end this mini-home stand on a high note before facing two tough away trips to Columbus and Atlanta.

These two teams are dead even in all competitions, with 10 wins, 8 draws, and 35 goals apiece. But the record falls in New York City's favor for games played in The Bronx: NYCFC has 7 wins, 3 draws, and 4 losses at Yankee Stadium, with 22 goals scored and 16 goals allowed.
New England last won an away game against New York City on June 19, 2021, when the eventual title-winners were deep in their midsummer slump, and they last earned a point on June 3, 2023, when the two teams played to a scoreless draw thanks to the goalkeeping heroics of Djordje Petrović.

Last year was a different story, when New York City (wearing the excellent 24/7 Kit — when will see that again?) scored twice and and Matt Freese logged his first clean sheet of the season to walk away 2-0 winners. New York City carried a 1-0 lead into stoppage time that chilly April evening, and then Julián Fernández did this:

That win on April 13, 2024 represents the last time New York City kept a clean sheet at Yankee Stadium across a span of seven MLS matches played.
NYCFC finished out their 2024 series with the Revs with two trips to New England, with the team going unbeaten while visiting Gillette Stadium. They won in league play 0-1 thanks to a late Keaton Parks header, then played to a 1-1 draw in a Leagues Cup knockout match, with NYCFC prevailing in penalty kicks. Overall, New York City is unbeaten in its last five head-to-head meetings with the Revs across all competitions dating back to New England's 3-0 home victory at Gillette Stadium on September 4, 2022.
New York City Scouting Report
• Player Availability: Malachi Jones (leg), Tayvon Gray (leg), and Andrés Perea (hip) are all Out. Kevin O'Toole is suspended following the red card received in the win vs. Orlando.
• Julián Fernández looked good playing on the right vs. Orlando City, flashing his silk early in the match while nutmegging Luis Muriel, then picking up his first assist of 2025 on the match-winning Hannes Wolf goal. As mentioned above, Julián scored a banger at Yankee Stadium vs. the Revs last season – will we see him again in the Starting XI in the season's second home game?
• Where will Justin Haak be deployed, in defense or the midfield? Haak's been out there for every single available minute so far this season but has bounced between CDM and CB depending on the team's needs. He and Thiago Martins looked solid while paired in central defense vs. Orlando, as they did at the end of the 2024 season, but Birk Risa could always slide back into the XI and push Haak further forward into Pascal Jansen's midfield.
• With Kevin O'Toole suspended and Tayvon Gray injured, it seems likely Jansen will need to get at least some minutes from Nico Cavallo, the only available player with any experience (albeit limited to 23 minutes) playing as a left-back in MLS. The question is if Cavallo will function as a like-for-like O'Toole replacement in a back-four, or if Jansen will tweak his defensive formation to possibly deploy three center-backs. Injuries and suspensions have made for interesting times for the NYCFC backline at the start of this season.
