It was another must-win game for NYCFC, only this time they came through, beating an Orlando that have the best road record in MLS. Orlando were expected to rest key players ahead of their matchup against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami this weekend, but they fielded a strong Starting XI that looked dangerous for much of the game.
Orlando threatened to score numerous times, but it was NYCFC that found the back of the net first after striker Mounsef Bakrar headed home a saved penalty. Talles Magno came on for the injured Richy Ledezma in the second half, and he headed in a beautiful cross from Andres Jasson to seal the win.

An NYCFC defense that gave up cheap goals earlier this season was solid tonight, logging a clean sheet against a team that scored in nine consecutive games in all competitions. Goalkeeper Matt Freese logged his second consecutive clean sheet and his third in six starts, solidifying his claim to be the team’s starter.
NYCFC now have 34 pints after playing 30 games, and sit in 10th place in the Eastern Conference table, just two points out of the playoff zone. New York City will try to turn this single win into a winning streak when they face Toronto FC this Saturday, September 23, at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.
