Philadelphia Union head coach Jim Curtin announced that training was canceled on Thursday because of COVID-19 health and safety protocols. The Union is set to play New York City FC in the Eastern Conference Final of the 2021 MLS Cup two days from now.
According to a report in Brotherly Game, Curtin held a press conference earlier today to discuss the cancelation, but didn’t get into specific details. It’s unclear which, if any, players will miss the Eastern Conference final against NYCFC.
Curtin said that training resumed today with team members who are cleared to play.
As reported in Brotherly Game, Curtin said “I hope everyone can now respect the fact that I can’t speak on the health of certain individual players. We’re gonna prepare as best we can with the hope that everybody’s available. The reality is that’s probably not likely, but we’re trying to do our best to follow the protocols and get everybody prepared as best we can for a really tough game.”
