Struggles had been mounting of late for Pascal Jansen's team, entering this game in Canada coming off losses in three of their last four. The conditions weren't ideal, with a gusty wind whipping across the field at up to 30 mph, and neither team put on much of an attacking clinic. Yet an Alonso Martínez penalty kick gave New York City a lead in the second half, and the defense bunkered down to protect their slim lead to earn New York City their fourth win this year.
