New York City FC lost a second straight home match in a span of days, this one a 1-3 defeat at Yankee Soccer Stadium at the hands of first-place FC Cincinnati. Now it’s time for you to make you voice heard by rating the NYCFC players. Go ahead, tell us what you really think.
The form will remain open until noon tomorrow, June 1. The results will be published later that afternoon.
Three thoughts:
• NYCFC had an opening Gabi Pereira goal disallowed due to a “foul” allegedly committed by Gabe Segal in the build-up. It was one of many dubious decisions made by referee Armando Villareal, a hugely controversial figure on the night, and one who drew the ire of NYCFC players and coaches alike.
• The NYCFC lineup and formation were overhauled by head coach Nick Cushing, in part due to three injury absentees and in part due to rotation on a three-match week. The changes did not mean a change in fortune for a struggling NYCFC team that is now winless in its last seven played in all competitions, having catastrophically earned just one single point from their last six MLS matches.
• Braian Cufré earned a first start since the match away to Charlotte FC and managed to score his first goal since joining NYCFC, so consider him a rare bright spot in an otherwise depressing night in the Bronx.

In full honesty I can’t rate the players tonight.
That wasn’t a foul by Segal.
Tayvon got to the ball first.
I don’t know what else Alfaro is supposed to do there when he’s basically jumped into and there was an offside in the buildup anyway affecting Keaton Parks.
Even if you accept the penalty as correct–and without the offside, it would have been–that’s still basically two goals that Villareal gifted Cincinnati.
It wouldn’t be fair to rate the players for that absolutely shambolic performance by Villareal. Angel Hernandez would be proud.
Professional Referees. Anything but.
Absolutely. And let’s talk about Mosquera for a second. Dude flopped around the entire game and was rewarded for it by the Ref. I can’t believe Cufre didn’t get a red card when Mosquera acted like he had been shot after leaning forward with his own head to try to entice a head butt. Just pathetic. Any player that gets fined for embellishment this season should just send the disciplinary clips of this game and a note saying “don’t pretend you care.”
