It’s always nice to see New York City FC players get the call to represent their country on the big international football stage. And as of next week, three of NYCFC’s own will don their countries’ colors for the March international period.
Of the three, both Sean Johnson and Jonathan Lewis have been called up to the United States men’s national team, while Alex Callens has gotten the call to represent Peru.
For Johnson and Lewis, they will be participating in the USMNT’s friendly matchups against Ecuador on March 21, and against Chile on March 26. As for Callens and Peru, they will be competing against Paraguay and El Salvador on March 22 and March 26 respectively.
For the US, their international camp begins on March 17 which will effectively eliminate both Johnson and Lewis from competing for NYCFC against Los Angeles FC on that same day. And with the final game of the camp coming just three days before City takes on Toronto FC on March 29, they could very well be a scratch for that one as well. As for Callens, I’m still not entirely sure when their players need to report. But it would be wise of NYCFC to start making plans to replace the Peruvian center back well in advance.
We here at Hudson River Blue congratulate all three players on this accomplishment and wish them the best of luck!
