The MLS season is officially over and the playoffs are right around the corner. But before the quest for Major League Soccer’s top prize is to begin, players will be given one more opportunity to shine on an international stage.
Earlier today, New York City FC announced that seven of their players had received international call-ups and will be participating in the next FIFA international break this upcoming week.
The list of the seven players are as follows:
- Alexandru Mitrita (Romania)
- Alexander Callens (Peru)
- Sean Johnson (USA)
- Ronald Matarrita (Costa Rica)
- Maxime Chanot (Luxembourg)
- Tony Rocha (Belize)
- Taty Castellanos (Argentina U-23)
Of all the names mentioned, Taty Castellanos’s is definitely the one stands out. Having never gotten a call up from Argentina prior, Taty being called up to the White & Sky Blues’ second highest level is an exciting development. We actually covered it last week when the news first broke.
Sean Johnson being called into action for the United States is almost to be expected at this point, though it would be nice for him to actually get some playing time this time around.
The earliest of these international matchups takes place on October 9 while the latest will all be on October 15. NYCFC doesn’t begin their MLS Cup Playoff run until October 23, so no absences are to be expected.
Good luck to all the Boys who received a call-up! Play well and stay safe!
