Earlier today, Major League Soccer announced that New York City FC's Thiago Martins was named to the 2024 MLS All-Star Team Roster. This is the first time the central defender has made the All-Star Team.
And it's the first New York City to make the cut since 2022. Last year, no NYCFC players made the All-Star Team for the first time in club history.

Thiago Martins was a Coach's Selection, and one of the 12 players chosen by Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy. He becomes the 14th New York City player to be selected to an MLS All-Star Team roster.
The 29-year-old Designated Player often served as the team's captain this year, and anchors a defense that have given up 25 goals in 20 games. That's good for the joint-fourth fewest in the Eastern Conference.

When New York City defender Tayvon Gray was asked about Thiago Martins making the All-Star Team, the right back simply said, "He's the GOAT, man."
The MLS All-Stars will play the Liga MX All-Stars on Wednesday, July 24, at 8 pm ET. The match will be held at Lower.com field, home to Columbus Crew.
