Vieira again denies talks with Nice

This is getting weird...

Two days ago, we covered rumors of New York City FC manager Patrick Vieira being personally courted by OGC Nice executive director Julian Fournier. The report — originally from RMCSport and later corroborated by NBC Sports contributor Matt Reed — stated that Fournier would fly to New York personally and meet with Vieira to secure him as manager for Nice heading into the 2018-19 Ligue 1 season.

But much like last week, Vieira denied any such plans.

Christian Araos — an NYCFC reporter with The Athletic — mentioned on Twitter that the French gaffer has denied any contact with Nice this week.

At this point, the situation has become so unclear that I honestly don’t even know what to say about it. It’s gotten to the point where I personally feel that either someone in the equation is lying (or just being purposefully cryptic) or that people may be getting fed bad information.

Either way, it’s obvious that Vieira is a juicy target for European clubs looking for a new boss. And it’d be foolish for NYCFC fans to expect him not to make the move across the pond eventually.

As always, we’ll keep you updated as the situation progresses.
