New York City FC lost to the New Jersey Red Bulls in a chippy game in Red Bull Arena. Now it’s time for you to vote for your NYCFC player ratings.
The ratings form will remain open until midnight tomorrow, August 4; the results will be published on Saturday, August 5.
Three thoughts:
• The Red Bulls were physical and opportunistic: It’s a young squad that play like seasoned veterans
• NYCFC looked unprepared for a testy matchup: It’s a young squad that played like a young squad
• Matt Freese did good, though

Any more room on the #CushingOut train? Because I want on after tonight.
In what world is playing both Gray and Jasson on the right side a good idea? Both of them had more giveaways than completed passes and looked terribly overwhelmed by the Red Bull press.
Cushing has been playing against this Red Bull side for three and a half years now. He knows this is how they play. How did the team look so underprepared to play a gegenpress side? Was he lulled into a false sense of security because they haven’t effectively pressed us since Marsch left until tonight? And when you see that the pressure is working, how do you not change tactics to try and regain the upper hand? The whole first half was like trying to break down a steel door that was also welded in place.
And then you take off Bakrar and replace him with Talles Magno who is 1) not a striker 2) unbearably slow for a center forward and 3) oh yeah, not a striker. Literally waved the white flag with 15 or so minutes left. At least put Segal on there, for God’s sake.
And oh yeah, the Red Bull attack still can’t hit the broad side of a barn and we still somehow find a way to lose to them.
Had we at least looked respectable I would be saying “ok, they got us, we move.” But Cushing horribly mismanaged this game from start to finish. Inexcusable.
