Earlier today, New York City FC signed 14-year-old Maximo Carrizo, making him the youngest player to sign a First Team contract in the history of MLS. In fact, the highly-regarded midfielder turned 14 today: Happy birthday, and welcome to the show.

Carrizo is signed through 2027, with an option for 2028.

Carrizo attended NYCFC Summer Camp in 2017, when he was a nine-year-old. The Manhattan native was invited to join the NYCFC Academy in 2018 as a U-12 player, where he impressed the staff enough to be named to the U-15 squad for the MLS Next Playoffs. Earlier this year, Carrizo joined the first team for preseason training.

Carrizo is signed to a Homegrown contract that will carry through the 2027 season, with an option for 2028. While he won’t likely to play for the senior team this year, he is eligible to join NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro.

The midfielder is just the latest NYCFC Academy product signed to a First Team contract. Last September, the club signed the 14-year-old Homegrown Christian McFarlane. In January, NYCFC signed 20-year-old defender Nicholas “Nico” Benalcazar, 20-year-old forward Jonathan ‘JJ’ Jimenez, and 21-year-old defender Samuel ‘Kwaku’ Owusu. All are expected to join NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro.
